There were no surprises in Gatlin County
.
We were pretty much the epicenter of the middle of nowhere.
At least, that's what I thought.
Turns out, I couldn't have been more wrong.
There was a curse.
There was a girl.
And in the end, there was a grave.

Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.

Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.

In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.

I saw this book on Periplus with the 'Major Motion Pictures' printed as the new cover. I thought this book was good since they made it into a movie.

This book is just like typical romantic fantasy books I've read. A girl who was cursed and an ordinary boy who was destined to have a rare power to save the girl and they fell in love during the journey to break the spell that cursed the girl's family. For me, It's easy to guess where the story will go, just like Ethan Wate, the main guy character, guessing the murder from a thriller movie after 10 minutes watching.

Well, I might say I won't buy the next sequels unless I have nothing to read to accomplish my reading challenge.

Trivia: This book won William C. Morris YA Debut Award Nominee (2010), Goodreads Choice Award Nominee for Young Adult Fiction (2009), ALA Teens' Top Ten (2010)

I give this book: ★★ (2/5 stars)

Quotes:

"A little known fact about me: I read all the time"

"Get the hell away from my boyfriend, witch"
"The best way to find out if you can trust somebody is to trust them"
